Seed Oil Helps To Improve Nutrition

By Hazel Hawkins

Whether whole, ground or pressed into seed oil, flax seeds are a good source of protein, fiber, fat, minerals and vitamins. More nutritious than the sunflower seed, flax seeds are a bit larger than sesame seeds. They have a hard shell that is smooth and shiny, and they range in color from deep amber to reddish brown, depending on whether the flax is the golden or brown variety.

Flax seeds are used in the prevention and treatment of many illnesses and conditions such as arthritis, cancer, diabetes and menopause, and are very promising in combating heart disease. By supplementing your diet with these organic seeds, you are taking good care of your body!

How Much Flax Seed Should You Take?

An important question to ask, is how much flax seed should you take? It depends on what benefits you are looking for. If you review your options and are using it for bowel regularity, then around one tablespoon of whole or ground flaxseed can be taken once or twice a day, with a full glass of water.

If you are using it for the prevention of other health conditions like heart disease, cancer and inflammation, two tablespoons once or twice a day is the typical dose.

Essential Fatty Acids

Though flaxseed oil is not suitable for cooking, as heating breaks down it healing properties, it can be used in salads. Some doctors recommend taking one tablespoon of flaxseed oil a day as a supplement. It can be used in salads, on vegetables or by simply taking a tablespoon of the oil. Flax oil helps you get a good supply of essential fatty acids.

Can flax seed oil fight cancer? Some experts think that it really can. The use of flaxseed oil is gaining credibility as a weapon in the fight against many health conditions, including cancer. Flax seeds counter inflammation associated with gout and lupus.

Lower Cholesterol Levels

It appears that omega-3 fatty acids limit the inflammatory reaction that these conditions produce. In the case of lupus, flaxseed oil can reduce inflammation in the skin, joints and kidneys, and it can also lower cholesterol levels that can sometimes be elevated by the disease. With gout, flaxseed oil may lessen the sometimes sudden and severe joint pain and swelling that is symptomatic of this condition.

What is it that these organic seeds contain that makes them so effective? The answer is alpha lipoic acid, or ALA, which is an antioxidant that occurs naturally inside every cell of the human body and is found in green vegetables, organ meats, rice bran, brewer’s yeast and of course, flaxseed oil.

Most Important Supplement

Will flax seed oil become the next multi-vitamin? That may not be as far-fetched as it sounds. Some scientists, nutritionists and researchers believe that it could be the most important supplement next to the multi-vitamin.

Almost every system of the body can benefit from this organic seeds natural properties; including the immune system, cardiovascular system, reproductive system, circulatory system, nervous system and the joints of the body.
