Protein Diets Help Lose Those Pounds

By Tracy Kerr-Walshe

Could high protein diets really help you consume fewer calories and lose weight? Emerging research has indicated that protein may be able to satisfy hunger better than either fats or carbohydrates.

This is why many people trying to lose weight use protein drinks as a meal replacement. However, how healthy are diets high in protein and is there such a thing as too much protein for your body?

Protein is essential for healthy cell growth, particularly with muscles. It also aids the body in fighting off infections. With high protein diets for weight loss, make sure that you choose a quality protein powder.

Easy To Digest Whey Protein Shakes

Shakes made with whey powder are very popular because they are easily digested. If you are a vegan or have allergies, then soy, egg white and rice proteins are also good options. Protein powders are available in an assortment of flavors, such as whey protein chocolate, so choose a variety to avoid becoming bored with your diet.

To get the most value out of your protein nutrition shakes you should add healthy ingredients to them. This also helps improve the flavor that many people find bland and chalky. Instead of just using water to make your shakes, use low fat milk, juice or a combination of liquids.

Increase Fiber By Adding Fruit

You can even use coffee for a breakfast shake. Fresh and frozen fruit are also a popular addition, as adding some fruit will increase the fiber content. This will keep you fuller longer and reduce the desire to snack.

Consequently, you’ll consume fewer calories and lose weight. Good fruit choices to add to your shake are bananas, blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, mangoes and apples. These can also be frozen to give shakes more thickness.

Low Fat Yogurt Adds Consistency And Thickness

Yogurt is an excellent addition to protein shake recipes. You can review your options and use regular or frozen yogurt and it will add extra protein that is low on the glycemic index. It also contains calcium, which has been known to facilitate fat loss.

Adding yogurt will also give the shake more consistency and thickness. To reduce calories, use low fat yogurt. Other possible high protein ingredients suitable for your drink mixtures include raw eggs, soy milk, low fat cottage cheese, and low fat or natural peanut butter.

Low Fat Proteins For Your Breakfast

Protein shakes weight loss recipes are very useful when trying to lose weight, yet don’t use them for every meal. You still need plenty of other vitamins and minerals for your body to function efficiently.

There are lots of other low fat proteins that you can use as part of a healthy diet. Try making your breakfast oatmeal with milk instead of water, snack on fat-free mozzarella cheese or try smoked salmon or lean sausages for breakfast.

These are all tasty, healthy ways of following high protein diets without adding a lot of extra calories.

More Facts About Snack Foods

Who invented the first commercial snack foods?
There is a lot of debate when it comes to who invented the first real commercial snack foods. Joseph Fry invented the chocolate candy bar in 1847. He came up with the idea to mix cocoa beans into a paste with sugar and form them into bars. His invention was an instant success. It was not long before everyone wanted one of these wonderful chocolate bars. The really big name in chocolate came from Henry Nestle in 1875 when he created milk chocolate.

More savory snacks such as boiled peanuts have been around since the Civil War. In fact no one knows for sure when or how they were invented. That is just the first time that there is written documentation regarding troops eating peanuts. Of course they were not commercial produced. In 1888 the Thomas Adams Gum Company set up vending machines on the elevated subway platforms of New York City. The only choice was Tutti-Frutti gum but it was still a phenomenal hit.
