Infrared Saunas Providing A Healthy Experience

By Tracy Kerr-Walshe

Infrared sauna therapy offers specific benefits relating to certain conditions while giving you an overall healthy experience for both your mind and your body. You may already know that a steam powered sauna and a steam shower are both great for a lot of reasons and the infrared saunas are no exception.

They use a special light wave to warm the body and while the best results are achieved by adhering to a daily routine, you should limit the first couple of sessions to about 20 to 30 minutes and gradually work your way to 50 minute sessions. Before beginning any type of routine, review your options and check with your doctor to ensure that there are no health concerns that would prohibit use of the sauna.

Purify Your Body By Getting Rid Of Toxins

The infrared sauna helps your body to detoxify itself, yet it tends to be underused in many people. Every day, people are exposed to different chemicals that end up being absorbed into the skin as a result of products like body lotion, laundry detergent, air pollution, deodorants and food preservatives, as well as the sun’s rays, which all leave some trace of toxic chemicals in your body.

The skin has a primary function. It is to help you get rid of those excess toxins, yet it is often not able to complete the task on its own. Utilizing infrared saunas on a regular basis will help to purify your body and get rid of traces of chemicals, such as copper, sodium and nickel.

Improves Blood Circulation

Using infrared sauna therapy also improves circulation because when blood vessels expand, this lowers blood pressure and can improve the health of people who suffer with heart problems.

Poor circulation seems to be the cause of many discomforts and health problems; even severe headaches may be a result of poor circulation. Infrared sauna therapy also has ways to ensure that you benefit from healthy weight since sweating actually causes your heart rate to increase.

Increasing Your Heart Rate And Burning Calories

Naturally, when your heart rate increases you are benefiting from exercise of a cardiovascular nature and burning calories as well. In one session you can burn up to 500 calories, which is great for people who are not able to do physical activity of a strenuous nature.

Sore muscles and stiff joints can be relaxed during an infrared sauna session, which is the reason why so many athletes are rejuvenated after indulging themselves in infrared saunas. It is also good for people with conditions associated with pain, such as bursitis or arthritis. Perhaps one of the best points is that an infrared sauna session is a good way to relieve stress.

Did You Know This About Saunas?

Where were the first saunas used?
The word "sauna" comes to use from the Finnish. It was the Finns that first dug out pits in the ground. The heat came from building a fire beneath a bunch of stones. After the stones were red hot, the fire would be put out and the dwelling opened to allow the smoke out. Water was then poured over the stones to create the steam.

The Finns used the sauna as a way to clear their minds and to rejuvenate their spirits. Most often the use of the sauna marked a special occasion. These saunas were considered to be very clean and would be used for birthing as well as preparing the dead for a funeral.
