Anorexia Nervosa And Knowing The RisksBy Myfawny CraighterAnorexia nervosa is likely the most well-known of all the eating disorders on the planet. Everyday, millions of people attempt to starve themselves in order to achieve a better looking body, like those idealized images found throughout the media. However, what most do not realize is that certain people are more likely than others to develop full blown anorexia nervosa. If one knows the risk factors, then perhaps they can begin to steer clear of this devastating eating disorder. One of the first groups of people that are at high risk for developing anorexia nervosa are those who are consistently dieting. If they begin dieting, then people will more than likely notice and comment on how good they look. Losing Weight Too Fast Leading To Health ProblemsThis can be a double edge sword for most. If their weight loss results are not meeting their expectations quickly enough, then they may review their options and begin to take their dieting regime to a whole new, unhealthy level. Health anxiety may never be an issue if one continues to lose weight quickly. However, if weight is lost too fast then a person can begin to develop physical problems that can outweigh their original obesity issue. Dieting is fine as long as one does it in the healthy way and does not lose too much weight at once. A Personal Crisis Can Lead To Eating DisordersAnorexia nervosa can strike anyone, but those who are in a certain phase of life may be more easily susceptible. Those who have suffered a major loss in their life, such as death or divorce, can easily slip into a cycle of eating disorders. They may do this unintentionally, but if they are not careful, then they can lose substantial amounts of weight which can affect every aspect of their lives. Those who have experienced these types of loses should be monitored carefully so that they can seek eating disorder support if need be. Increase Knowledge And Seek TreatmentAnorexia nervosa can consume one’s life if they allow it to happen. However, for those at a higher risk of developing anorexia, they should do all in their power to understand what this disorder actually is and how they can seek treatment if needed. Knowledge is the key to overcoming this sickness and if one understands
this, then they are halfway to the point of lowering their risk for developing
this disorder.
