Acidic Foods Balanced With Alkaline Foods

By Myfawny Craighter

In today’s world, it can be a real challenge to eat in a healthy way on a consistent basis. Each day people are slammed with advertising messages making bad foods look not only good but highly tempting too.

At the same time, a huge amount of information about nutrition and diets is very contradictory. However, there is one thing you can do in terms of nutrition, and that is to review your options and reduce the amount of acidic foods you eat regularly.

The main problem with foods that are acidic is what they do inside your body through the process of digestion and the subsequent absorption into the bloodstream.

Eating, Digesting And Absorbing Food

From the bloodstream, whatever is absorbed from your food is then passed along to your tissues and organs. Your overall system is either strengthened or weakened by this process of eating, digesting and absorbing.

If you regularly eat a lot of acidic foods, then you will impact the pH balance in your bloodstream which is relatively delicate. The more acidic your blood the lower your pH and the more alkaline it is the higher your pH will be.

Strive To Balance Your pH

You want to strive to have a balance, so a slightly higher alkaline pH level and a reading in the range of 7.3 to 7.4 will be ideal.

You can easily take a pH test to find out your alkaline acid balance. You can buy pH test trips at many health food stores or from various places online, and you can test using either saliva or urine. Just follow the directions on the package.

Avoiding Food With High Acidity

As you are changing your diet and trying to find the right balance of acid and alkaline foods, you should test rather frequently, such as once a day, until you see that your pH is consistently in the range where you want it to be.

With regard to acidity and food choices, there are four main categories that you should try to avoid, or at the very least try to limit. These food categories include dairy products, such as eggs, butter, cream, cheese and yogurt.

Refined And Processed Foods

Meat and poultry includes beef, lamb, pork, chicken, turkey, shellfish and other similar types of foods. The processed, refined and frozen category includes groceries that have been processed in any way and are no longer close to a natural state.

Refined sugars and artificial sweeteners in beverages, which encompasses most of the things people love to drink regularly such as coffee, black tea, soda, concentrated juices and of course alcohol.

Attaining A Good Balance Of Acid And Alkaline

Acidic foods that fall into any of the categories above will serve to increase the level of acid in your bloodstream and throughout your body.

Limiting these foods and replacing them as much as possible with alkaline foods will help to bring your body into a good balance of acid and alkaline, which in turn will help you to enjoy good health, high levels of energy, and the ability to ward off many of the chronic illnesses and diseases that so many people suffer from today.
