When the human race lived off the land and had no concept of what "convenience food" was, their diet was healthy and simple. People ate fruits and vegetables in season and only ate meat as a last resort, when fresh, green and living food was not available.

As a result, our early ancestors had a good alkaline acid balance in their bodies. Today, things are very different in the industrial world and people no longer eat "naturally" and therefore eat a high acid diet in most cases.

Researchers now know that any diet high in acidic foods and low in alkaline foods can lead to bodily damage, which in turn can lead to a wide range of health problems. Mankind now endures many illnesses and diseases that were never known before eating habits changed so drastically in the last one hundred years or so.

Foods High In Acid Have A Negative Impact On Your Health

Even though there have also been some truly amazing advances in the fields of medicine and health, people in this day and age continue to be vexed with more and more serious illnesses.

It appears that the predominately acid diet that is so common to Western civilizations today has such an impact on health that it often negates the advances in medical science.

The Slowest Form Of Poison

Dr. Ann Wigmore was a pioneer in the raw foods movement and she was often quoted as saying, "The food you eat can be either the safest and most powerful form of medicine, or the slowest form of poison."

This statement is very much in alignment with the theory of adhering to an alkaline acid balance in one’s daily eating regimen. The educated know that the foods a person eats have a huge impact on the pH levels in their body and that these levels can be adjusted by eating foods that break down into either acid residue or alkaline residue.

Eating More Alkaline Foods To Achieve A Healthy pH Balance

People who chronically eat too much acidic foods need to eat more foods on the alkaline side in order to bring their system into a healthy pH balance, which should be at about 7.4 for optimal health.

When a person eats too much acidic food, their pH level will change and they will be inviting any number of health issues and concerns into their lives. One of the first things to be affected when the body is too acidic is the immune system, and once the immune system is compromised there is no end to the number of health problems a person can experience.

Improving Your Health With A Balanced Diet

Fortunately, the human body is a miraculous machine that has the capacity to heal and repair itself when provided with the right fuel. Of course, the sooner you can catch a problem and change from an acid diet to a more balanced acid alkaline diet for optimum health, then the better your chances will be of recovering from poor health.

Take the time to review your options and learn what foods to add to your diet and which to avoid, and then put that knowledge into practice. This will allow you to get your body back into balance, which in turn will improve your health.
