A Steam Bath Before Bedtime

By Tracy Kerr-Walshe

The many benefits of steam baths have been known for years. It is not a new concept. As a matter of fact, Hippocrates is credited with discovering that a fever could actually cure different ailments. This led to both saunas and steam baths producing simulated fevers, perhaps even longer than was originally thought.

There are good attributes in both the sauna and a steam bath; however, the steam bath is better for respiratory conditions such as allergies, asthma and bronchitis because it provides more moisture content.

The Steam Bath Offering Relief

As previously mentioned, the steam bath can offer relief to those who suffer from respiratory ailments, possibly because steam can removed mucus and allergens from your lungs. Many doctors advise patients to breathe steam.

By utilizing steam rooms, they can breathe in a much more concentrated amount of steam than they would normally get with a vaporizer, allowing maximum benefits to people with breathing difficulties. This is by no means a cure, yet many people feel such relief that they will go back again and again for the relief it does provide.

Sweating For A Healthy Skin

A steam bath has other benefits as well, as sweating is essential for healthy skin. Dermatologists claim that it cleanses your skin even better than soap and water because it unlocks pores and lets the deep set grime and any dead cells get washed out. And, since steam increases your blood circulation it gives your skin a glowing and healthy look.

Other benefits include pain relief. Since heat is useful for the management of muscle pain, taking steam baths after a good workout is an excellent way to speed up the healing process of the sore muscles and tissues. Heat makes your blood vessels expand, which in turn boosts the circulation that lets increased oxygen get to the injured parts of your body.

Deep Sleep For Healing Your Body

One of the most effective ways of healing your body is through deep sleep; however, not everyone has that luxury. In your life you may have to deal with daily stresses and those stresses tend to build up over time, which may cause someone to have stress related problems, such as hypertension and high blood pressure.

Hot tubs saunas, home saunas or perhaps a sauna massage would be a great way to review your options, unwind and try to relieve those daily stresses. The heat from the sauna helps to loosen your muscles and the steam actually makes it a more comforting atmosphere in which to calm your mind.

Taking A Steam Bath Before Going To Bed

You may discover that taking a steam bath before going to bed is an excellent way to promote a deeper and more restful sleep. Most people come out of the sauna room with a more calm and relaxed state of mind and that is something that everyone can use.

So, why not indulge yourself in order to reap the benefits of a relaxing sauna bath, which is having good overall health as well as a peace of mind.

Did You Know This About Saunas?

How much does a sauna for my home cost?
The cost for saunas varies depending on how big you want the sauna to be, what type of heating source you select and what type of material the sauna will be constructed out of. You can find a 1-2 person sauna at Wal-mart for around $949.00. You can also find some at specialty stores that cost more than $2000. Before you go and purchase that sauna, you need to first decide what type you want and then you need to decide where you are going to put it. You definitely do not want to purchase a huge sauna if you live on a very small, cramped lot or live in an apartment.
